Obaidul: Attackers of DU students won’t be spared, but demonstrators were no good either

Update : 24 Jan 2018, 06:46 PM
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said stern action will be taken against any Chhatra League activist found to be involved in the assault on protesters blockading Vice-Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman’s office at Dhaka University on Tuesday. However, the minister added that the protesters, under the banner of leftist student fronts, were not blameless either, accusing them of being violent and staging their program in “an undemocratic manner.” Calling the demonstrators “unruly,” Obaidul, a former Chhatra League president himself, said the DU VC’s protectors, who were involved in damaging three collapsible gates, will be “identified and punished.” “Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman told me that his life would have been in danger if Chhatra League men did not come to his rescue,” Obaidul, also the Road Transport and Bridges minister, said while speaking to reporters during a visit to Bangladesh Road Transport Authority's (BRTA) mobile court near Dhaka’s Manik Mia Avenue on Wednesday.  This article was first published on banglatribune.com
