Saraswati Puja, worship of Hindu goddess of wisdom, was observed in Bangladesh on Monday with due religious fervour.
In Dhaka, Saraswati Puja was observed at different educational institutions and temples, including Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University.
In most places including the Dakeshwari Temple, the Puja began at 8am with the offering of “Anjali” (a handful of flowers), which was followed by “Hatekhori” (ritual initiation of children to the alphabets) and distribution of “Prasad” (food kept in front of the goddess idol during the worship).
Hundreds of students and residents of surrounding areas thronged the Jagannath Hall premises and prayed before the goddess idol.
Like the previous years, 63 departments and institutions of the university arranged the puja at 70 Mandaps on the Jagannath Hall playground this year.
Rokeya Hall, Begum Shamsunnahar Hall, Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of DU, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka Medical College, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Shakhari Bazar, Tanti Bazar and different educational institutions across the city also organised “Bani Archana” (chanting of the name of the goddess).
