Bangladesh Chhatra Federation organised the program at Aparajeyo Bangla and railed against the ruling government over their “inaction” regarding the killing of Felani and many more along the Bangladesh-India border by BSF.
A rally took off from the Aparajeyo Bangla where protesters alleged the Felani murder trial has not progressed because the government does not wish to upset India as an important neighbour and trading partner.
Bangladesh Chhatra Federation President MA Pervez Lenin said the government has signed trade treaties which are more beneficial to India than Bangladesh.
Lenin said: “The government is not concerned about border killings, rather focusing on appeasing India by offering amenities while sacrificing our interests.”

Other speakers at the rally demanded justice for all the border killings by BSF held in a fair court.
Faisal Mahmud, secretary general of Chhatra Federation urged the government to declare January 7 as “Border Killings Protest Day” and take initiatives to stop border killings.
A procession was brought out following the rally at DU campus demanding justice for all the border killings and proper compensations paid to the victims’ families.
A day-long photo exhibition was arranged in front of the National Museum by “Shimanto Hotta Potirodh Moncho” marking the five years since the heinous killing of Felani.
Felani, 15, was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) when she was returning home with her father from India through the Anantapur border along Phulbari upazila of Kurigram on January 7, 2011.

BSF troopers hung her dead body on the barbwire fencing at the border. A photo of her body on the fence created great uproar in Bangladesh and generated criticism across the world as well.
After much deliberation, BSF trooper Amiya Ghosh, who shot and killed Felani, was put on trial twice and acquitted both times. Since then, rights groups have been protesting and urging the government to convince India to set up a fair trial where justice for Felani can be ensured.
