Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Monday said Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of Muslims, will be held in two phases on the bank of the river Turag on the outskirt of Dhaka. The first phase is scheduled to take place on January 12-14 while the second phase will be held on January 19-21, the home minister confirmed. “Police will undertake special measures to ensure tight security ahead of Biswa Ijtema,” Kamal told the reporters after a meeting on country’s law and order situation at his office on Monday. The minister also said that a large number of law enforcement forces, including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police, would be deployed to ensure a smooth organisation of Biswa Ijtema. The minister also said that the law enforcers will keep a close eye on the security of the foreign nationals who would come to join the Ijtema. Besides, the government would install fire service control room and deploy an emergency medical team for the healthcare service of the devotees during the congregation.
