Update : 28 Sep 2017, 11:31 PM
Journalists and employees of Bangla TV, an online private television channel, padlocked their office after staging a demonstration over their outstanding salaries on Thursday. The protesters said they had not been paid salaries for the past three months. The protesting employees, numbering about 100, further said the channel authorities had given no legitimate reason for the lack of payment and only said the employees would be reimbursed later. Sajjad Hossain Tilak, a videographer of the TV channel, said: “My four-month old child died as I could not afford medicine. Such circumstances cannot continue.” Meanwhile, the TV channel's managing director Samadul Haq could not be reached by phone despite repeated attempts to contact him, while General Manager (marketing) Ahammed Sarker refused to comment on the matter. Zakaria Kajal, who had been serving the head of news at the channel, said: “I just resigned last month. Currently, I have no links with the people working there. So, I cannot say anything about due salaries.” The TV channel was officially launched on May 19 with the slogan “Bishwajure Bangla (Bangla across the world)” at a hotel in Dhaka.
