New rank badges have been introduced for the Border Guard Bangladesh as part of restructuring of the force.
The newly introduced badges were accorded to BGB officials, including DG Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed, by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office yesterday.
Four regional headquarters, four new sectors and other units were formed as part of the restructuring.
M Muhasin Reza, information officer of the BGB, said with the introduction of the ranks, a longstanding and embarrassing situation was solved.
Bangladesh Rifles was restructured with the name BGB following the February 2009 carnage at Pilkhana in which 74 people, including 57 army officials, were killed.
