My First Job

Update : 14 Sep 2013, 06:34 PM

Tell us a little about your education background?

I did my Bachelor of Commerce from Australian National University. My major was in Accounting and Finance. I did my A-levels from Mastermind School and O-levels from European Standard School (ESS).

What was your first job after graduation?

My first job was as a Finance Officer in Citibank, NA. Bangladesh Head Office, Gulshan.

How did you get the job?

I dropped my CV and cover letter addressing HR at the head office. After facing written exam and verbal interview, I was offered the job on spot. Surprisingly, in my final interview the only thing I was asked from my resume was about the gold medal I won in high school for extraordinary dedication in the field of community service and nothing else.

What was your biggest accomplishment in that position?

I achieved the ability to learn to handle multi-dimensional work and deliver work timely.

Looking back, what is the most valuable lesson you picked up from your first job?

The most valuable lesson I would describe is my understanding of and coping with the corporate environment. I also learned to act like a professional.

Did your first job change your mind about what you want to do with the rest of your career?

Yes, I learned that Finance is not only about spreadsheets but planning, analysis, audits and lots more. Hence, for the rest of my life I would like to chase my career in the field of finance

Who inspired you the most in your first job?

I was immensely inspired by one of my senior colleagues who supported and guided me all the way. He is like an elder brother and a mentor to me. He was the “supercomputer” in our bank. He is extremely knowledgeable, dedicated and hard working and thus was admired and respected by everyone in the organisation.
