Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has revealed a plan to create an elevated circular road encircling the entire city of Dhaka.
She said: "We will not acquire any land, instead, Dhaka will be encircled by an elevated expressway. We are considering this, and we are working on it."
The prime minister said this while addressing a grand rally organized by the Awami League Dhaka North City at Civil Aviation ground in the capital city’s Kawla area.
The rally was supposed to take place on October 7 on the occasion of soft opening of the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, but it was rescheduled due to inclement weather.
Regarding the Padma Bridge conspiracy, the prime minister said: "The World Bank falsely accused us of corruption. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's daughter is here to serve the people, not engage in corruption. That is why I challenged them, asking, 'Have you found any evidence of corruption?”
She said: "Begum Khaleda Zia's government was involved in corruption regarding projects like the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, Siddhirganj Power Plant, Niko, and Gatco. The World Bank halted funding for their power sector and road projects. They (BNP) had no moral standing to challenge them, given their involvement in corruption. They betrayed the people's trust. Awami League is dedicated to serving the people's welfare. That is why we issued the challenge. The Canadian court acquitted us, and all of the World Bank's allegations were unfounded."
