Update : 30 Apr 2013, 03:53 AM

Industries Minister Dilip Barua yesterday said the government has taken an initiative to set up three new fertiliser factories to meet rising demand for the agricultural input.

The factories will be set up under Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), he told parliament in response to a starred question of Golam Dastagir Gazi (Narayanganj-1).

The minister informed the house that the new factories are under-construction Urea Fertiliser in Sylhet (Shahjalal Fertiliser Project) having 1760mt of daily production capacity, North-West Fertiliser Project of 1750mt capacity and Shahjalal Fertiliser Project-2.

The government also has a plan to gradually reopen the closed fertiliser factories, he added.
