Water taxi service in Hatirjheel from December 16

Hatirjheel Project Director Major Kazi Shakil Hasan said six water taxies each able to carry 45 passengers will run between BFDC and Rampura via Moghbazar, Mohanagar residential area and Gulshan Police Plaza. "The fares are set at Tk25-30 per trip. On gaining the popularity of the service, the number of such boats will be increased,” he said. “In the future, a little pantry will be set at each vessel to serve tea, coffee and biscuits during the 30-minute journey." The project director said the government could extend the service to Baridhara after a bridge is built at Badda link road. The inaugural event on December 16 is expected to be attended by Local Government and Rural Development and Cooperative Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq. Babul, Hatirjheel security guard said: “The trial of the service will start from Thursday evening and it will continue till Sunday.” A transport provider named Messrs Wahid Miya has been assigned to operate the service for twenty years.
