Officials of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport customs department have arrested one and recovered 94 Bangladeshi passports from his possession.
The arrestee is Saiful Islam, 36. He is suspected to be involved in human trafficking and smuggling.
Assistant Commissioner of the Customs department of the airport, Md Reyadul Islam, said Saiful landed in Dhaka around 11pm, boarded on a Malinda Airlines aircraft on Tuesday night.
“We were suspicious about him and started following him. When we were scanning his luggage, we found nothing but some small book materials. We thought that we might get some clue about him.”
And after opening his bag, the official recovered 94 blank Bangladeshi passports, both machine readable and manual, he said.
Officials suspected that the passports might be used in human trafficking and smuggling. He added that Saiful was handed over to the airport police station early in the day.
A case was filed with the police station, he said.
