Assailants have hacked a woman and her daughter to death at Atlora village under Shreepur upazila in Gazipur.
The deceased are Hasuni Bibi, 50, her daughter Arifa Khatun, 18.
Meanwhile, Hasuni's son Shahjahan Mia, 21, was also injured in the incident.
After visiting the spot, Prohadpur union Chairman Abu Syed said: “The three of them were sleeping in the same room after dinner on Thursday night. Armed assailants swooped on house and hacked them severely around 1:30am Friday.”
He said: “They fled the scene when locals came to the rescue of the family after hearing their shriek.”
Locals took the injured to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared Arifa dead.
Later, Hasuni died on the way while she and her son Shahjahan were being shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The chairman said: “Arifa did not have clothes on her body when they were being rescued by the locals. It is being estimated that the assailants might have attacked the three while they were raping or trying to rape Arifa.”
Shreepur OC Abdul Motaleb Mia said: “OI have heard the matter and sent police to the spot for inquiry.”
