Forest guards arrested eight members of a deer poaching gang along with two kg of venison from Nandabala area of the Sundarbans under Mongla upazila early yesterday.
The arrestees were identified as Mohsin Sheikh, 45, his son Yeasin Sheikh, 25, M Badsha Sheikh, 40, Saiful Mallick, 30, Rafique Sheikh, 36, Hasibur Rahman, 32, all hailing from Shikir Danga village in
Rampal upazila of the district, Ibrahim Mallick, 30, a resident of Borodia village, and Shahadat Moral, 35, of Perikhali village in the same upazila.
DFO of the Sundarbans East Zone M Amir Hossain Chowdhury said the forest guards during their regular patrol challenged a trawler and two boats in the Pashur River in the early hours.
Two kg of venison were recovered after searching the vessels. Later, the forest guards arrested the inmates of the three vessels.
A case was filed in this connection.
