Lack of awareness results in cyber crime

Update : 01 Apr 2015, 06:08 PM

Cyber crime has been rising at an alarming rate in the country as most people have very minimal idea on the issue and are often not cautioned, speakers said at a seminar titled “Cyber Security: Awareness on Information and Communication Technology Act” yesterday.

Citing government data, the speakers said a cyber crime takes place every 20 seconds in the country and around 2,500 victims lodge their complaints to authorities concerned every month.

They said the sphere of cyber crimes was growing day by day due to the high accessibility to advanced technology and machinery and thus people should also be aware technically. They also informed that in most cases, women were the main target of the criminals. Presided over by EDU’s Dean Prof Obaidul Karim, the seminar was addressed by EDU’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammed Sikandar Khan.
