Update : 24 Mar 2015, 07:03 PM

Law enforcers have recovered the bodies of the wife of a former police officer and her domestic help inside their apartment in the capital's Jatrabari.

The body of landlady Raushan Ara, 60, was found lying on a bed in one room while 11-year-old housemaid Kalpana Akhter on the couch of another room. Raushan’s late husband Abdul Quddus was a former additional police superintendent.

“Informed by locals, police recovered the slaughtered bodies in the evening from a flat of a three-storey building of north Jatrabari around 6pm,” Mustaq Ahmed Khan, deputy commissioner of Wari division, told the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

Raushan has five daughters and sons but all of them live abroad. She used to stay on the first floor of the building with Kalpana, Kalpana's mother Lucky Akther and aunt Champa.

Mostofa, a grocery shop owner, told the Dhaka Tribune that a tenant of the building informed him that he had seen the main gate opened for nearly two hours. “Hearing this, I along with two other people went to the house and found the bodies. Later we called the police.”

Police picked up Lucky and Champa, who were not present in the house at the time of murder, for questioning, Abani Shankar Kar, OC of Jatrabari police, told the Dhaka Tribune.

Law enforcers suspect that the killers might be known to the victims. CID forensic unit Inspector Arif Iftekhar said they were confirmed that it was murder but could not ascertain immediately whether it was a robbery.

The bodies were sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for a post mortem examination.
