A person was arrested with 16 gold bars yesterday in the morning by customs officials at the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong city.
The arrestee, Jahangir Alam, 37, of Charati under Satkania upazila in Chittagong, arrived at the airport at 9:55am through an Air Arabia flight from Ras Al Khaimah province of UAE, said airport sources.
Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Chittagong’s Assistant Director Syed Mukaddesh Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune that they conducted a drive at the airport following a tip-off after the plane landed.
“When Jahangir was crossing the green channel at the airport, we found his movements suspicious and stopped him. We found the gold bars, weighing about two kilogrammes and worth approximately Tk90 lakh, in his socks,” he said.
