3 RAB officers cleared of murder and abduction charges

The four accused are former RAB-2 Commanding Officer Col Masud Rana, Deputy Assistant Director Shahidur Rahman, Inspector Wahid and RAB source Ratan. Metropolitan Magistrate Pronab Kumar Hui passed the order after accepting a judicial inquiry report that cleared the four accused from the charges in the case. In response to the court order, the plaintiff submitted a petition asking for time to submit a no-confidence petition against the judicial probe. The plaintiff alleged the court rejected the case without passing any order regarding the no-confidence petition. On November 6, Metropolitan magistrate SM Masud Zaman submitted the judicial inquiry report to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) in Dhaka clearing the four accused after conducting a judicial probe. Later, on November 11, the CMM sent the probe report to the court of Magistrate Pranab Kumar Hui for disposal of the case. Earlier on August 24, 2015, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan directed to conduct a judicial inquiry over the BCL leader murder after a case was filed against the four accused. Arju’s elder brother Masud Rana filed the petition case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court against the four accused under sections 365, 302, 109, and 34 of the penal code. The plaintiff claimed Arju was an innocent student leader who was studying for his master’s degree at Kabi Nazrul Government College. Arju was allegedly kidnapped by the four accused on the day a local teenager called Raja was murdered. The next morning Masud was informed by locals that Arju’s body lying behind Shikder Medical College Hospital.
