Five people hatched a plan at a restaurant in Zinda Bazar in Sylhet city on March 10 to kidnap schoolboy Abu Sayeed, says Abdur Rakib, district Olama League Secretary, while depositing a statement before a Sylhet court yesterday.
Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court 1 Judge Shahedul Karim recorded the statement from 12:30pm to 4pm.
Abdur said: “Geda phone me on March 9 and wanted to meet with me. The following day, I, Masum, Mahibul Islam Masum, publicity secretary of district Ulema League, Geda and another unidentified man met there. During the meeting, showing picture of a boy Geda told us that we have to kidnap the boy. Then, the unidentified man said no problem, it will be done.”
Abdur also told the court that they had kidnapped the boy in the morning on March 11 and kept him in a tin-shed house, adjacent to Geda’s house.
Later, Geda and Masum took the boy to the house of Ebadur Rahman, a constable of Airport police station. Then, Geda phoned the family of the boy and demanded Tk5 lakh as ransom, said Abdur. Abdur told the court that Geda and Masum had killed the boy as the boy could recognise them.
On Monday, the court placed Geda who is an informant of RAB, on a three-day remand in connection with the killing.
The court granted the remand after police produced Geda Mia before the court with a 10-day remand plea yesterday afternoon.
Police recovered the decomposed body of Abu Sayeed, a class IV student of a primary school, from constable Ebadur’s house located in Kumarpara Jharnarpar residential area in Sylhet city on Saturday night.
Police detained constable Ebadur, district Olama League Secretary Abdur Rakib and Informant Geda Mia for their alleged involvement in the abduction and murder.
Sayeed’s father Abdul Matin also filed a case against six people, including three suspects detained in connection with the murder.
Later on Sunday, the arrested police constable Ebadur Rahman gave confessional statement before a Sylhet court, admitting his involvement in the abduction and killing.
While giving the statement, the constable told the court that nine-year-old Sayeed was abducted for ransom, but he was later killed as he could recognise Ebadur and Geda.
Sayeed was picked up from Rainagar while on his way to his uncle’s house on the night of March 10.
The abductors first demanded Tk5 lakh and then Tk2 lakh ransom. Later, Sayeed’s father Abdul Matin filed a general diary with Kotwali police station on March 11.
