A rape incident has allegedly been settled with money in a local arbitration in Bogadia area of Sadar upazila.
Besides, the arbitrators gobbled the money paid by alleged rapists.
Sources said the shocking heinous incident took place on Monday night, whereas Sahera Mahmud Arif Government Primary School’s Managing Committee President Anwara Khatun played the key role.
On the day, the school’s nigh-guard Rafiqul Islam tactically confined a class-V student to one room of the institution after school hours and later he along with his accomplice named Jalal Uddin raped her there.
Around 7:30pm sensing the matter, some locals caught the rapists red handed and gave them a good number of beating.
Later, Anwara Khatun meddled in the matter and she along with some influential locals in the end settled the rape incident in her home by imposing a fine of Tk30,000 on the rapists.
When asked, the school’s Managing Committee President Anwara Khatun acknowledged the incident, saying: “The girl’s (victim) character is not good and that is why we have settled the matter with Tk30,000 to shun legal complexities.”
Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain said: “The incident cannot be settled by arbitration due to its nature. We will take legal action in this regard.”
Local people alleged that the night-guard often occurs such sort of offence in the school with the support from the managing committee president. In the incidents, the victims do not make any complaint in fear of social stigma.
