NGO man found dead after 7-day of disappearance

Police have recovered the body of an NGO staff member seven days after his disappearance near Kochkhali area at Fulchari upazila of the district.

The deceased is Golam Mustafa, 39, a Grade Four staff of an NGO named Friendship.

He was working at the regional office of the NGO in the district.

Friendship district branch convener Abdul Halim said Mustafa went missing on February 26 after receiving his salary and allowances from office.

He used to go home to Mollarchar by boat through the Bramhaputra River.

Mustafa might be abducted by muggers, he added.

Officer-in-Charge of Gaibandha sadar police station Rajiur Rahaman told the Dhaka Tribune that Mustafa’s elder brother Nurul Islam lodged a general diary with the police station a day after his disappearance.

On being informed of a body floating in the Bramhaputra river, police rushed to the scene near Kochkhali, and recovered the body, said Fulcchari police station Officer-in-Charge Mosiur Rahaman.

He was hacked to death after severe torture. We found several spots on his head and face, he said.

A case will be filed in this connection soon, the OC added.
