Local fishermen rescued a youth, whose hands and legs were tied up with ropes, in a critical condition from the Padma river in Goldangia area in Sadar upazila on Monday night.
The victim named Antarul Islam Rubel, son of Shohrab Mollah, from Aijuddin Matubbar Dangi area of the upazila, was admitted to Faridpur General Hospital around 10pm.
However, Rubel’s elder brother Abul Bashar alleged that hired hoodlums of one influential local, namely Rashid Fakir, tied his brother up and dumped him to the river in the evening as sequel to the long-prevailing dispute over a piece of land while he was on the way to home from his workplace.
