ACC sues wife of former state minister

The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case against Priti Haider, wife of former state minister for water resources M Mahbubur Rahman, for accumulating wealth illegally.

Deputy Director Farid Ahmed Patwary lodged the case with Ramna police yesterday, ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told the Dhaka Tribune over phone.

The decision to file a case was made at a regular meeting of the ACC. The anti-graft body initiated inquiry last year.

Mahbubur was sued by the ACC on August 21 last year for illegally accumulating wealth worth Tk5.2 crore and concealing information of Tk1.25 crore.

The ACC found that Priti illegally accumulated wealth worth Tk1.08 crore when her husband was the state minister, an official said.

On the other hand, the ACC yesterday quizzed former lawmaker of Satkhira 2 constituency Abdul Jabbar for his alleged involvement in accumulation of wealth illegally.

Assistant Director and Investigation Officer Masudur Rahman questioned Jabbar at the ACC headquarters from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.

On October 13 last year, the ACC filed separate cases against the former lawmaker and his son Mahbub Hossain for amassing wealth illegally.

According to the First Information Report, Jabbar illegally earned wealth worth Tk1.73 crore while Mahbub Tk19 lakh.
