Probe report submission date shifted to April 1

Update : 02 Feb 2015, 07:15 PM

A Dhaka court has asked again Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to submit before it a probe report on the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi by April 1.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Yunus Khan passed the order yesterday as Investigation Officer (IO) Wares Ali, also an assistant superintendent of police of RAB, failed to submit the probe report.

The report was to be submitted yesterday. But the court again deferred the report submission date to April 1 as the IO failed to submit it.

Wares Ali took over the charge of the investigation on March 18, 2014 but has been failing to submit the probe report although the court has been changing dates.

Police have so far arrested eight accused, including two guards of the residence of the victims. They are now in jail.

According to the case documents, Sagar Sarowar and his wife Meherun Runi were killed at their rented flat at West Rajabazar in the capital on February 11, 2012.

Sagar was the News Editor of Maasranga, a private TV channel, and his wife Runi was the Senior Reporter of ATN Bangla, another private TV channel.

After their murder, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police started an investigation into the case. Later, the case was shifted to Detective Branch of police.

However, the High Court, in an order, shifted the case to RAB for investigation as the former had expressed inability to resolve the case.
