Arson attack on bus injures 6 in Barisal

Arson attack on bus has injured six people near Khoyrabad Bridge on Barisal-Kuakata route early Wednesday.

In this attack six passengers were injured and of them Reshma Begum, 31, with burn injuries, and Hafizur Rahman, 29 and unidentified another one were sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

The three others – Md Ismail, Md Ali, and unidentified another one – with minor injuries left the spot after taking first-aid.

Dr. Ranabir Das, emergency medial officer of Barisal SBMCH, said the three injured left the hospital on Wednesday morning after taking treatment.

Sub Inspector Golam Kabir, second officer of Barisal Kotwali police station, said the bus of Abdullah Paribahon (Dhaka-Metro-Ba-14-7818) was plying on Saidabad (Dhaka) - Kuakata (Patuakhali) route.

At about 1:10am on Wednesday when the bus, crossing Barisal University, reached Khoyrabad Bridge near Turjya Filling Station at Barisal-Jhalakathi districts border, came under arson attack by miscreants.

The patrol team of law enforcers reached the spot immediately.

Fire service men also rushed to the spot from Barisal and extinguished the flame after 2am Wednesday.

Police of Barisal Kotwali and Nalcity of Jhalakathi arranged safe transportations of the passengers to reach their destinations, said SI Golam Kabir.

Mukta Begum of Patuakhali, a passenger, said the bus left Saidabad for Kuakata at 6pm Tuesday and patrol bomb was thrown on the bus from both sides of the highway at about 1:10am Wednesday after crossing Barisal city, Kirtankhola River.

The driver stopped the bus immediately on the road to evacuate the passengers as the vehicle got fire.

Besides, three cabins of triple-deck Dhaka bound launch MV Sundarban-7 and MV Parabat-10 were torched just before leaving Barisal port damaging furniture, but injuring none on Tuesday night.

A passenger carrier Maxi plying on Barisal-Karapur Road was also torched at Battala parking place of the city on Tuesday night.

However, except these incidents hartal and blockade are going on loosely without hampering daily life in Barisal on Wednesday.
