A group of unidentified miscreants have allegedly severed the tendons of both legs of a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist at Shah Paran gate in Sylhet city on Friday evening. The victim is Ponki Miah, a HSC student of Sylhet Government College and a BCL activist of Shah Paran Thana unit.
Officer-in-Charge of Shah Paran police station Shakhawat Hossain endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune. Eyewitnesses said a group of miscreants came to Shahparan Gate area riding on motorcycles attacked Ponki around 7pm and stabbed him indiscriminately. The attackers cut the tendons of his two legs and fled the scene, they added. Later, Ponki was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital till filling report.
OC Shakhawat Hossain said drives are underway to arrest the criminals. Meanwhile, BCL Sylhet unit General Secretary Raihan Chowdhury accused Shibir-Chhatra Dal activists behind the attack.
Raihan said Shibir activists threatened Ponki as he tore off a banner of the organisation near Shah Paran gate.
