Update : 06 Nov 2016, 09:36 PM
The Shorba Janani Kali-goddess Temple in Sirajganj was attacked last Saturday decapitating the idols of Goddess Kali and Shitala-Devithey and the invader later fled with the idols’ heads. Deputy Commissioner Kamrun Nahar Siddique, Police Super Miraz Uddin Ahmed, Sadar upazila Chairman Riaz Uddin and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Branjon Chambugong went on an inspection on Sunday. Following the vandalism of the idols, a case was filed with the local police station but no suspects were mentioned. Adhir Chondro Kundu, president of Kuripara Shorba Janani Kali temple of Foolkocha Union under Sadar Upazila, said the attackers came during Saturday midnight and ruined the idols of Goddess Kali and Shitala-Devi leaving the headless idols in the temple. The local Hindu community members informed the Puja Udjapan Parishad about the incident. Sadar police station’s OC Basudev Sinha reached the location as soon as he was informed. He is in charge for running the investigation, which includes deputy commissioner and police super alongside other officials. The Puja Udjapan Parishad members critised the incident demanding arrest of the offenders at the earliest. “This is a despicable incident and it affects all the members of our Hindu community.” said the district’s Puja Udjapan Parishad's General Secretary, Shontosh Kumar Kanu.
