BNP, Jamaat activists have reportedly attacked a police van and snatched away an arrestee from Bakila Bazar area of Chadpur-Comilla highway under Haziganj upazila in Chandpur.
The snatched accused is Nasir, 38, son of Nurul Islam, a Jubo Dal leader of the union.
Officer-in-Charge of Haziganj police station said: “The attack took place around 5pm on Thursday while a team led by sub-inspector Biplob arrested the Jubo Dal leader from Bakila Union and were in the way to the police station.”
A huge number of activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami attacked the convoy and snatched way the arrestee, he added.
Later, police along detective branch conducted raids in the area and arrested six people in this connection, Sub-Inspector Abul Kalam Azad of the police station confirmed.
Drive is underway to arrest attackers, the accused and a case will be filed in this connection soon, the official added.
