The police have detained two Shibir activists when they brought out processions in Sagor Dighipar area of the district.
The detainees are Saidur Rahman Rafi and Imadadullah.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rahmant Ullah said: “The police will take tougher stance if the hartal supporters try to create any violence in the area.”
The half-day hartal in Sylhet called by the BNP-led 20-party alliance protesting the arrest of their party leader Dr Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury is underway peacefully.
The hartal began at 6am and it will end at 12pm on Tuesday.
Vehicular movement is normal in the capital city. No unpleasant incident is yet to be reported till updating of this story at 11:27am.
Police detained Sylhet BNP's metropolitan unit Convenor Shahriar and two activists of its student wing while they were trying to bring out a procession from Chowhatta in support of the dawn-to-dusk hartal on Monday.
