Corruption allegation against union land officer in Natore

Update : 29 Dec 2014, 06:56 PM

Some locals have filed complaints against a land official of a union parishad to the authorities concerned in Natore stating that the official had allegedly taken several thousand taka from them as bribes in the name of solving their land related problems.

They have submitted the complaints against Abdur Rahim, assistant land officer at Dighapatia Union Parishad to Natore’s additional deputy commissioner (revenue), sadar upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and assistant commissioner (land).

In the statements, they claimed that Rahim had collected a huge amount of money illegally saying that he would help them solving land related paper-work problem.

Habibur Rahman, a resident of village Dhakopara under the union, told the Dhaka Tribune that Rahim had taken Tk30,000 from him for solving a land related problem.

Earlier, Habibur applied to the district’s assistant commissioner (land) seeking declaration of his name for a “Kha” scheduled land to restore his ownership of the land.

The district land office asked Rahim to produce an investigation report about the mater, he said.

But Rahim demanded Tk35,000 from Habibur for the purpose, he added.

Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, one Shahbaz Khan and Kashem Sikder of Gobindapur area also raised the same allegation against Rahim.

They said the union parishad’s land official took bribes of Tk60,000 and Tk1 lakh from them respectively.

Toufiq Al Mahmud, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) in Natore, confirmed that they received the allegations against Abur Rahim.

Necessary steps would be taken in this connection soon, he said.

Rahim could not be reached for his comments, despite several attempts over cellphone.
