A teacher of a private institution has raised an allegation of rape against her own student of the same institution, in the capital’s Mirpur area on Saturday night.
The victim filed a case with Mirpur Model police station against her student Riaz Hossain Babu, 26, alleging that he offered to marry her and developed a physical relationship based on that promise.
Sub-Inspector Asaduzzaman Asad was assigned to investigate the case.
“After the filing of the case, the victim was taken to the Victim Support Centre at Tejgaon and then to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for medical tests,” Asad told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
According to the case, the victim teaches at a fashion design institution at Mirpur, where Babu is a student in the merchandise department. She was involved in a relationship with Babu, which grew physical as Babu said he would marry her.
However, Babu later showed reluctance to marry the victim, and from September 9 to December 17, he engaged in sexual relationship with the victim at his mess with the promise of marriage.
Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Md Moinul Islam, officer-in-charge (investigation) at Mirpur Model police station, said: “They developed a relationship three months ago. Babu refused to marry her, so she filed a rape case against him.”
Babu had yet to be arrested in this case, police said.
