Miscreants have foiled the victory day celebration programme in Sherpur by setting fire to the stage.
Locals said the organiser of the programme, Tarun Somaj, completed their preparation of the celebration around 2am on Tuesday. But, some unidentified miscreants set the stage on fire.
Following the incident, the organiser postponed the programme and called the police.
Sub-Inspector of Sherpur sadar police station Ansar Ali said: “Being informed, we rushed to the spot and inspected the area.”
The miscreants will be identified after the police investigation is done, he added.
Seeking anonymity, locals said the incident might have been resulted from the feud of a quarter over choosing the chief guest for the programme.
Organising Secretary of Sadar upazila Awami League Md Afzal Hossain was decided to be the chief guest and chairman of the union Md Anwarul Islam was scheduled to preside over the programme.
