A Dhaka court has asked RAB’s investigation officer in journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi murder case to appear before it in person on December 30 with all the probe-related documents, and clarify how much time the elite force needed to complete the task.
The IO, Assistant Superintendent of Police Wares Ali, neither attended the case proceedings yesterday nor submitted the progress report, through any representative, as per the court’s previous order.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Maruf Hossain was unhappy with the IO because of his absence and also for not mentioning some necessary information in the previous progress report submitted on September 18.
The elite force, which took over responsibility of the investigation from the DB police two months after the killing on February 11, 2012, earlier said it had received DNA test results from the USA and were analysing it.
Moreover, RAB in November took into custody two key suspects – security guards Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir and Palash Rudro Paul – for interrogation.
The court in its order yesterday said the IO had not mentioned in the progress report the information retrieved from the call lists of the two suspects and during their interrogation. It asked the officer to clarify the matter on the next day.
It also wanted to know about the persons the victims had talked to over the phone before the incident. The IO did not mention this in its progress report.
IO Wares took over the charge of investigation in the sensational case on March 18 this year.
Sagar, news editor at Maasranga, and his wife Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were killed at their rented flat in the capital’s West Rajabazar on February 11, 2012.
Doctors in the viscera report, prepared on May 29, 2012, said they had found no sedative, poison or any chemical used in killing the duo.
