The leader of a robbery was killed in an alleged gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Pirojopur’s Kaukhali upazila yesterday.
Killed 40-year-old Sabuj was son of Abdul Awal from Jogairhat village in Jhalakathi’s Rajapur upazila.
Captain Abul Bashar of RAB 8 Barisal said a team of them, led by DAD Ruhul, as usual went to patrol Kaukhali town around 7pm yesterday.
Just as they arrived near the town college premises, Sabuj and his accomplices fired at them, triggering a gunfight. Sabuj died on the spot while his accomplices were able to run away, he said.
Bashar said they also recovered some arms and ammunition – one magazine, one foreign pistol, one bullet-loaded gun and two one-shooter guns, four cocktails and two machetes – from the scene.
He claimed that there were 18 cases, including murders, filed with police against him.
