Two held with arms, ammo in Chittagong

Police have arrested two persons along with a light gun (LG) and four rounds of bullets from Karnaphuli Bridge area in Chittagong city’s Bakalia area on Thursday.

The arrestees were Abu Taher, 35, and Md Syed, 26, said Officer-in –Charge (OC) Mohammed Mohsin of Bakalia police station.

The OC said being tipped-off, police raided a Chittagong city-bound passenger bus of Hanif Paribahan at Karnaphuli Bridge area around 1:30am and arrested the duo.

Later, police recovered a LG and four rounds of bullets from their possession, said the OC.

During initial interrogation, Taher admitted that the firearm and ammunition were brought to the city in a bid to kill his uncle following land dispute, said.

A case was lodged with Bakalia police station, the OC said.

Meanwhile, police, in another drive, arrested two along with 500 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from the same area in the morning.

The OC said acting on tip-off, police raided a Chittagong-bound bus at Karnaphuli Bridge area around 9am and arrested Selim, 35, and Md Hossen, 36, along with 500 yaba tablets.

A case was filed in this connection with Bakalia police station.
