Police take down counterfeit ring in Dhaka

The Detective Branch has arrested seven members of a counterfeit currency ring. They were detained with Tk5 million in counterfeit notes and real notes and equipment on Monday night. Around 12pm at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters, Joint Commissioner (DB) Abdul Baten said the criminal ring had conspired to circulate counterfeit notes ahead of Eid. The police seized Tk37.6 lakh and Rs11.5 lakh in counterfeit notes. The DB chief said the seven were part of two separate groups. One DB team arrested three from Mohammadpur with equipment to counterfeit Taka and Rupees, printers, laptops and laminating machines. Another DB team arrested four more from Farmgate with similar equipment. Cases have been filed against the criminals.
