Police have arrested the chairman of Poilarkandi union parisahd for murder.
Arrestee Khowaz Ali is the prime accused in Rezu murder case.
A police team led by Assistant Superintendent Nazmul Islam and Baniachang OC Biswajit Deb conducted a drive at Habiganj staff quarter on Thursday morning and arrested Khowaz Ali.
ASP Nazmul Islam said Khowaz Ali is accused in a dozen cases.
Chairman Khowaz Ali and former member Sworaj Mia of Poilarkandi union parisahd had a longstanding dispute over establishing supremacy.
Following the dispute, supporters of the chairman and former member locked in a clash on February 2 that left Rezu Mia dead on the spot.
Rezu Mia was a supporter of former member Sworaj Mia.
Shajil Mia, brother of Rezu Mia, filed a case with Baniachang police station against 42 persons. Chairman Khowaz Ali was made the prime accused.
