Rapid Action Battalion personnel have seized the auto-rickshaw, which was used in the killing of Rajshahi University (RU) Professor Dr AKM Shafiul Islam Lilon.
The auto-rickshaw (Raj Metro-Kha-5358) was seized from Rajshahi Rail Station area in an abandoned state early Wednesday.
Rajshahi RAB Company Commander Major Shofiq said: “The killers went the spot by the auto-rickshaw on November 15 and again used it to flee from the scene.”
“The arrestees had give us the number of the auto-rickshaw. We seized it as an evidence.”
Humayun Ahmed, principal of Islamia College located in the Jamaat stronghold of Binodpur in Rajshahi city, and several others were taken into custody in connection with the murder.
Professor Shafiul Islam was hacked to death outside his house in the Chauddapai area of Rajshahi city on November 15. He died several hours later while undergoing treatment for his wounds.
A Facebook page, apparently representing an unknown militant group, has claimed responsibility for the murder.
Professor Shafiul had a long standing suspicion that Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir men might physically assault him.
