The activists of local Chhatra League and Swechchhasebak League unit of Gazipur have attacked and vandalised the house of a local BNP leader in Mawna area under Sreepur upazila.
Advocate Abu Jafar Sarkar, whose house was attacked, said: “Some hundred activists led by BCL Organising Secretary Naimul Islam and Swechchhasebak League member Sazzad Zaman of Telhati union attacked my house around 7am.
“They vandalised the boundary wall and looted a computer and some 50 chairs from the house.”
Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge Mohsin Ul Kadir said: “Being informed, we sent a police team to the spot. The police found the house vandalised.”
“But we are yet to take any action as no formal complaint has been filed in this regard. Necessary steps will be taken after filling of the complaint.”
Denying the allegation of looting valuables from the house, BCL Organising Secretary Naimul Islam said: “Jafar illegally grabbed the land of local Riaz Uddin. He did not free the land despite of asking to return it to its owner several times. So, we went there and vandalised the border wall of the house.”
Following the incident, upazila BNP president and other leader visited the spot and demanded remarkable punishment of the attackers.
