A local Awami League leader and a freedom fighter were shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Goakhula village in Abhaynagar upazila yesterday.
Mollah Oliur Rahman, 55, was joint general secretary of Abhaynagar upazila unit AL and also a councillor of Abhaynagar Municipality.
The freedom fighter’s brother Rezaul Islam said some armed miscreants shot his brother in a close distance on the Goakhula bypass road in the village around 7am while he was on a morning walk after saying prayers, leaving him critically injured.
Later, villagers took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 8am.
Abhaynagar police station OC Choiruddin Ahmed echoed Rezaul, saying unidentified miscreants killed him and fled immediately.
Police detained a man named Yunus Ali from Sharankhola village for interrogation in this connection.
