A 10-year-old hearing-impaired girl has been strangled by unidentified miscreants after rape in the capital's Islambagh area on Friday night.
The deceased is Moni Akhter, 10, daughter of one Chan Mia.
Locals said they noticed the body covered by a jute bag on a road near her house around 10pm and informed the police.
Being informed, the police rushed in and sent the body to the morgue of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said police officials.
Mofizuddin, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said: “She has been strangled after rape. The police have detained a youth for his alleged involvement with the crime.”
“We are quizzing the detainee and the detailed information will be made public after investigation.”
The detainee, Delwar Hossain, 25, an employee of a local plastic factory, reportedly made two attempts to violate the girl earlier, said the police.
Family members said Moni went missing on Friday evening.
