Detective Branch (DB) of Police has detained a former general secretary of Tangail district unit Chhatra League from the town's Nirala intersection in connection with the murder of district Awami League leader and freedom fighter Faruq Ahmed.
Detainee MA Rouf is also the general secretary of Red Crescent in the district.
DB Inspector Mafizur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune that they held MA Rouf around 8:30pm on Saturday to interrogate him.
The bullet-ridden body of Faruq Ahmed, who was a member of Tangail Awami League and also the former joint secretary of the committee, was recovered near his house in Collegepara on January 18 last year.
His wife Nahar Ahmed later filed a case with the Tangail sadar police station against unidentified assailants.
