A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, an associate body of BNP for students, was allegedly hacked to death by some activists of the ruling Awami League in Isakhali area of Palash upazila here yesterday.
The victim, Abul Kasem Mridha alias Limon, 22, was general secretary of Gojaria union unit JCD.
Witness sources said there was a schedule for arbitration to settle the altercation between Limon and local AL activist named Solaiman Miah over sand trading. Accordingly the victim attended the meeting along with his two associates, namely Oliullah and Rubel.
At one stage, some AL activists led by Solaiman and a local Jubo League leader named Ariful Islam started hacking Limon with machetes indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. Later, he was declared dead on arrival at the district hospital.
