A brawl over price of fish eventually led to the death of an elderly woman in Bhatipara village of Comilla.
The victim is Kanon Bala, 55, wife of Jagadish Chandra Das.
Quoting locals, police said on Wednesday evening Jagadish, who is a fisherman by profession, brought some fish which Kanon Bala sold to her neighbour Jasmine Akhter, 25, on credit.
Later yesterday when she went to Jasmine’s house to collect the money which was Taka 50, Jasmine started to swear at her and said the price of the fish was fixed less than that.
At one point of the bickering, Jasmine and her family members started hitting Kanon Bala with a stick leaving her dead on spot.
Titas police station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Hannan said following a case filed by Jagadish Chandra Das, police had detained Jasmine’s parents, daughter and a nephew in this connection.
However, Jasmine managed to flee from the scene, he said. The victim’s body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
