A woman has been beaten to death by her borrower at Bhati para village under Titas police station in Comilla on Thursday.
The deceased is Kanon Bala,55, wife of Jagdish Chandra Dash, a fisherman of the village.
Locals said Jesmin Akhter, 25, wife of Sheikh Farid, bought fish from Kanon Bala on Wednesday afternoon and promised to pay Tk50 on Thursday.
Kanon and Jesmin engaged in an altercation on Thursday when Kanon demanded the money from Jesmin. At one stage, Jesmin and her family members started beating Kanon, leaving her dead on the spot, witnesses said.
Officer-in-Charge of Titas police station Tarek Mohammad Abdul Hannan said: “Kanon’s husband Jagodish has lodged a murder case with the police station accusing Jesmin and four of his family members.”
“We arrested Jesmin's father Barek Mia, 55, her mother, sister Shahinur Akhter and cousin Sohel in connection with the murder case,” he added.
However, the main accused, Jesmin, was on run, the official said.
