The Police, in separate drives, have arrested 14 alleged robbers along with firearms and other local weapons from Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong on early Thursday.
Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda police station, Iftekhar Hasan said: “We recovered a light gun (LG), one round of bullets, five machetes and 14 mobile phones from their possession.”
“Being tipped-off, a team of police conducted drive at Ponthisila area on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway under Sitakunda upazila and held five robbers at around 3:30am on Thursday.”
Later, acting on their confessional statement, the police arrested nine other robbers along with two mobile phone sets from the same area, He added.
The OC said: “ The robbers used to commit robbery on the highway by halting traffic.”
Nearly, two cases have been lodged with Sitakunda police station in these connections, he added.
