Update : 21 Oct 2014, 12:04 PM

Police detained a youth on charge of stalking and attacking a student of a local women's college in Mehendiganj upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The arrested is Mehedi Farhad, 22, son of late Mojammel Miah, from Gazirchar Lengutia village of the upazila.

Abul Kalam Chowdhury Sajal, acting principal of Mehendiganj Women's College, said the students caught Mehedi red handed from a classroom of the college around 10am when he swooped on a class-XI student and started beating her up mercilessly, leaving her injured.

The victim was admitted to Mehendiganj Health Complex while the college authorities handed over the detainee to the local police.

Mehedi had long been stalking the victim on her way to the college and made an offer to be involved in a romantic affair with him, but the girl repeatedly denied to do so, the principal added.

When contacted over phone, the victim echoed the voice of principal Abul Kalam, saying that Mehedi made the attack to abduct her.

Acknowledging the detention, Mehendiganj police station OC Uzzal Kumar Dey said the victim's father was to file a case against the youth for stalking and attacking his daughter.
