Police in separate drives yesterday rescued 35 persons from Chittagong’s Bahaddarhat area and Railway Station area when they were being readied for being trafficked to Malaysia.
Police nabbed one trafficker, Idris, 32, hailing from Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar, said police sources.
Syed Abdur Rauf, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandgaon police station, confirmed the incident saying all the rescuers hailed from Jossore district.
said “Acting on tip off, a police team held Idris along with four persons from the Microbus Stand area near one Morium Hotel of Bahaddarhat at around 6:30 pm,” Chandgaon police Sub-Inspector Arifur Rahman.
Later, as per Idris’s confession, police conducted another drive at Chittagong Rail Station area rescued 31 persons who where being trafficking to Malaysia through Chokoria of Cox’s Bazar, he added.
