Drug peddler set free for Tk45,000

A drug peddler was allegedly set free yesterday by police in exchange of Tk45,000.

According to family sources, drug dealer Faruk, 30, son of Mofu Miah of Gazirchat area of Ashulia, was arrested at 2pm from Jamgora area.

 Faruk’s brother said for years his brother had been a drug dealer in the area but he recently stopped selling and consuming drugs due to family pressure.

According to the family members, even the after Faruk’s total detachment from drugs, members of Ashulia police station kept insisting him to a pay a monthly bribe and was often threatened to be framed in a drug case by the police SI. After being arrested, Faruk was locked up in a police microbus while the police called his family and demanded Tk1 lakh for his release.

After eight hours of negotiation, opposite of Ashulia police station in front of DEPZ gate, Faruk’s family paid off Tk45,000 to the police in exchange of his freedom.
