Update : 14 Oct 2014, 08:50 PM

The Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) early yesterday recovered Tk29,950,000 which was stolen from Chittagong city’s office of Group Four Security (G4S) Services Bangladesh Private Limited in the early hours of Sunday.

The DB personnel also nabbed Md Bashirul Alam, 24, of Moheshkhali island of Cox’s Bazar, a Muajjin of Chittagong City College Jame Mosque as the stolen money was recovered from his residence.

Police, however, could not arrest G4S security guard Shahidul Haque  Shantan, 24, who was on duty during the stealing.

The CMP Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandal made the disclosure at a press conference held at CMP headquarters in the afternoon.

“The main culprit managed to flee evading strong vigilance of law enforcers as the money recovery news was published at electronic and online media immediate after their drive,” he said.

The commissioner said they had conducted drive at Bashir’s residence around 3am following a tip-off and recovered the money kept in two big suitcases.

During interrogation, the arrestee confessed that Shantan took the money to his residence on Sunday and requested them to keep the money for some days.

On Sunday, Shantan wearing masks allegedly lifted Tk3 crore from the G4S office where Tk54 crore were stored.

Later, G4S Senior Manager Tarique Mansur lodged a case with Khulshi police station on Monday.
