A Narayanganj court has served a show-cause notice to Dhaka central jail authority for not producing former RAB officer Tarek Sayeed before the court in the seven-murder case.
Narayanganj Session Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin issued the notice yesterday afternoon. The court also ordered all the arrestees in the case to appear before it on December 1.
District Lawyers’ Association President Advocate Shakhawat Hossain yesterday said: “All the arrestees were scheduled to appear before the court today. 21 out of the 24 came.”
He said one of the remaining three was absent because of illness while another arrestee Ruhul Amin was on remand. “However, the jail authority did not say anything about Tarek’s absence.”
Md Neasar Alam, jailer of Dhaka central jail, told the Dhaka tribune: “We saw it on television news that a show-cause notice has been issued but we have not got any formal documents.”
The jailer said Tarek did not appear in court as he was sick.
“He is suffering from fever and diarrhoea. We failed to submit the written document regarding his illness to the court because the man carrying it was stuck in traffic jam and could not make it to the court on time,” he said.
Seven people, including the panel mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, were abducted on April 27.
Their bodies were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30.
